Shop Technician

Marine Hydraulic Consultancy (MHC) is a premier global leader in hydraulic and control systems for large cruising / racing orientated sailing yachts. We design, supply, commission, troubleshoot, optimize, and support electro-hydraulic systems for the superyacht industry worldwide. MHC’s highly crafted designs are the most recognizable and highest performing in the industry. We are an expanding organization with a remarkable customer base.  We have an immediate need for an shop technician to help create, assemble, and test high performing electro-hydraulic systems for superyachts and oversee day to day operations of our assembly shop.

Job Responsibilities

  • Oversee the day to day operations of the assembly shop and equipment
  • Construct, wire, and test electrical panels
  • Assist in test setups, development and debugging for new electro-hydraulic systems
  • Assemble, plumb and troubleshoot hydraulic circuits
  • Paint and finish components for a professional appearance
  • Read and interpret wiring diagrams and hydraulic schematics
  • Support design for manufacturing and provide job planning estimates
  • Work independently and to prioritize tasks when a supervisor is unavailable
  • Implement new process procedures and modifications for more efficient operations
  • Perform necessary changes, modifications, and/or repairs as directed
  • Maintain machine shop organization, safety, and cleanliness
  • Provide technical support to customers via phone, email or on-site visits

 

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to stand and walk for an extended period
  • Lift and carry 75 lbs. without external assistance
  • Bend, twist, lift and carry frequently
  • Stoop, squat, and kneel occasionally

 

Job Qualifications

  • The ideal candidate will have experience as a machinist, or in manufacturing and production.
  • Experience as a maintenance technician, auto technician, mechanic, or similar will be considered
  • Proven organization skills are essential
  • Fluent in the use of precision hand tools and machining tools
  • Demonstrate electrical, mechanical and hydraulic troubleshooting capability
  • Self-motivation and ability to prioritize projects to meet completion dates
  • Able to work in a fast-paced, rapidly changing, team environment
  • Ability to travel to customer site for system startup and support, including international travel
  • Proficiency with common computer programs (Windows, Excel, Word, etc.)
  • Strong English communication skills, both written and spoken
  • Ability to pass a background check and have or be able to obtain a US passport
  • Flexibility to work overtime and weekends as needed

 

Preferred Qualifications

  • Fabrication, painting, welding and manual machining skills preferred
  • Outside processing knowledge (heat treating, plating, coating, EDM, grinding, etc.)
  • Knowledge of CAD tools
  • Experience in basic machining practices
  • Field service experience is preferred
  • Hydraulic/pneumatic control knowledge a plus
